MATCH REPORT- 28th NOVEMBER 2004
Carshalton Athletic Reserves 0v1 Clapton Reserves
After a few technical hitches including Lou having to go home to get her phone, we got to the pitch and had to split in two groups to get into the changing rooms. A few people got locked in the toilet but eventually we made it to the pitch. A bit of a warm up later and we were off.
From the start it was an extremely fast and hard fought game. The ball was going to one end of the pitch to the other at such a speed that both teams, at times, looked a bit warn out. That did not however affect the play on both sides. There were many runs down both wings into the oppo's area and their 'keeper pulled off many fine saves. Half time saw us dine on a mixture of oranges and chockie bickies. The half time talk was inspiring and on we went with a determination not felt before. We WERE going to win this.
The second half was much of the same. Each move started from the back and when the play broke down everyone got stuck in to get it back. Carshalton had some good play through the middle and had some good shots stopped by the defence and Gel in goal. One particular move started from our own area and moved through midfield to Clare who took it and ran into their area where she was taken down. The ref blew his whistle and pointed to the spot. A bit of confusion followed when realising we had a penalty, someone had to take it. Mooch stepped forward and said "I'll do it." And she did. Placing the ball on the spot and taking steps back, she turned and said "Follow it in." Never looking at the keeper, she took a deep breathe looked at the ball... "I just smacked it," and the ball went straight into the left hand bottom corner. Well, cheer we did. The pressure was on and with determination and clear heads we knew we could win this battle. A few last minute corners for Carshalton were weathered and when the whistle went, the reserves had won their first match of the season. Much merriment and eating of chockie bickies followed. It was a great game against worthy opponents. Job done.
